Sometimes it’s easy to forget that we spend most our time stumbling around in the dark. Suddenly, a light gets turned on, and there’s a fair share of blame to go around. I can’t speak to what happened before I arrived, but… all of you have done some very good reporting here. Reporting that I believe is gonna have an immediate and considerable impact on our readers. For me, this kind of story is why we do this.

Marty Baron, played by Liev Schreiber, speaking to his team of journalists hours before the biggest story of their lives is printed in the film Spotlight

I watched Spotlight  first and foremost because I was interested to see why it won the Academy for Best Film in 2015. In the end, I came away with a greater appreciation for (true, traditional and hard working) journalism and a sense of disbelief as to how the Catholic church had gotten away with so much. What the Boston Globe discovered during their investigation is really disturbing, leaving you unsettled and bothered.

I hope you take the time to view this film. It is a great story and the cast did an wonderful job. But mainly, I hope that it will open your eyes and give you a sense of what these victims suffered under one of the oldest,  most trusted and  powerful institutions.
